Just went through this. 8 month old heater I do not have the receipt for. When I pulled the heater it was over 150 degrees fahrenheit. Based on feedback here looks like I am totally screwed. I have already replaced with a MarineLand unit that states it has a failsafe to prevent this issue.

2 months and no comments? I just purchased a 75 watt that started at 80, 2 days later climbing to 83. pulled it out of the tank and testing it in a cooler right now. Had to turn it down to almost 73 to get it to desired temp of 79 and maxed out calibration ring to 79 while measuring at 80 right now. Scared to put it into my tank now and may just return it for something else.

What heater did you all have that failed?  And Mark, which MarineLand did you get?

I had a Jager 75 watt that wouldn't stay calibrated. They were very quick to replace it with another one which I haven't had an issue with to date. I tried to lower the temperature a few degrees, and found that it wouldn't lower it actually creeped up. Experimenting with it I found that if I was at 79F and turned it down to 78F it creeped up. Then I turned it well past the 78 mark to like 70 or so, then back to 78 to set temp it would stay there and has for the past 5 months +/- 1 degree. This is in a 10 gallon tank. I have a 20 Gallon with a 100 watt Marineland heater that comes in the complete kit and it is coming up 1 year old and has never given me any trouble either.

I have a 300W Jager. My problem is the opposite. The power indicator light is on but no heat produced. I tested the resistance and amps with negative results. I bought it from Petsmart on 11/17/19, stopped working first week of January 2020. That’s only seven weeks it lasted. I registered the heater when I bought it but now I can’t find a registration or warrantee information.

The 300w Jager I’m dealing with went way too hot. Even with the adjustment dialed correctly all the way it’s was still 10 degrees to hot. I only caught it because I touched the tank. Set at 74 and It was actually 88. Got it within 10 degrees with the dial then the thing went dead. So I thought I’d try Eheim Support and it’s been two weeks without a reply
